The table below shows all of Belden’s precision digital cables and the distances they can go for both HD (1.5 Gbps column) and 1080p (3 Gbps column). Note that these distances are based on a formula in the SMPTE 292M standard (the point where the HD signal reached -20dB at ½ the clock frequency).
This formula places the maximum distance somewhere around halfway to the digital cliff, meaning you could theoretically go twice as far, or even further with today’s latest chip technology (e.g. Gennum).
If the installer or end user wishes to exceed the distances shown above, he is encouraged to test cables with Bit Error Rate Testers (BERT), eye pattern testing, or some similar appropriate method.
